There are many spellings of the Hyers name. It could be Hyres, Hyre, Hires, Hier. And, It could be a related to the Heyer name. Gunrod came from Germany. I saw some references of Hyer coming from Switzerland. I would think those would still be of German descent.
There seem to be two distinct Heyer families that came to America, Leichert, whose relatives seem to be in WV. And, there was Gunrod Hoyer (americanized as Conrad Heyer.) He came later. And, they seemed to populate in New Jersey/MA area.
My line is John Hyres. He was born in Chautauqa County NY in 1812. I cannot find records of his parents. One of the subsequent census records says his father was born in Rhode Island, and his mother in VT.
This is a difficult name to connect. But, I just read something that said the first rule of genealogy is to ignore the spelling. And the second rule is to ignore the spelling.
