I am looking for Scottish connections to Samuel Hyslop and his wife Amelia Hume who emmigrated from Scotland (Dumfries area) to Canada in May of 1819 with their daughter Mary. I have a Land Grant application dates September 1819 that staes they arrived "about four months ago" and another dated 1824 that states they arrived "five years ago". They finally settled in McKee's Mills (formerly Little River) near Buctouche, New Brunswick. The 1861 Kent County Census lists Samuel as 75 years old, which puts his birthyear around 1786. Ameila is listed as 67 years old which places her C1794. They are not listed on the 1871 Census. His grandson, Samuel N Hyslop came to St Stephen, NB after 1971 (he is not listed on teh 1881 Census) as a tanner, worked in the harness making business for a time and served as a Customs Officer on the NB/Maine border for 25 years, passing away in 1922. I have a great amount of information on the original Samuel's decendants, but have been fruitlessly trying over the years to find Scottish links. Anyone have any info- Samuels immediate decendants includ or direction? Rumor has it Samuel's father and grandfather's name was John Hyslop from Kelton, Dumfrieshire, Scotland but no substantiation.
