Hubert Igo who married my mother's sister Ruth Keely was considered to be Black Irsih. When his brother Sebert Igo researched the Igo family genealogy he learned that their earliest Igo ancestor in Ireland arrived there in 1588 when serving in the Spanish Armada. His ship the Trinidad (800 tons, 302 men) was wrecked off the west cost of Ireland near Valentia Island, off the coast of south Kerry. According to family tradition the native Irish rescued and hid the surviving Spanish sailors saving them from being put to death by the English. So it appears that at least some of the Black Irish were descendants of shipwrecked Spanish sailors who served in the Spanish Armada c1588.
