The Family Bible belonging to Winifred Adams Holland, granddaughter of John Elston and second wife, Hannah Morris, gives the date of death of John's first wife, Eliza Imel, as 17 Apr 1850. I believe this date corresponds with the date of the birth of a child (also recorded in the Bible) who died shortly after birth.
The 1850 US Census of Pike Twp., Marion Co., IN shows the widower, John Elston (misspelled), with all their children - leading to the possibility (or probability) that Eliza died there five months earlier.
I found that John Elston's grave at Olathe Memorial Cemetery in Kansas was unmarked. The cemetery had a record of the location so I had a gravestone made for him (2008). Some of John's children and his second and third wives are buried in the two Elston plots (of six graves each). John was the founder of Elston, KS (historical) - replaced by Altamont, KS prior to 1880. He is my ggg grandfather.
