The Poncie DeLione connection is described in Myrtle Sneed's Journal p84: "Now in the year 1790 my father was born in Madrid, Spainhe was a sailor on a Spanish cruiserthey were looking for niew thingsthey were up the Scotch coast when he was taken ashore with a fever and was left a year or longerhis name was LENORDA. PONSIE.Delione . . . the court of Scotland give him the name in 1821 of Mac.Kimmey and that is why my name is different from Roney.sHe is my younger brothers boy . . ."This doesn't make sense and is contradicted by the following.
Several letters and obituaries are included with my copy of Myrtle Sneed's Journal. The following seems to contradict Nathaniel's previous storie. Excerpt letter from N. McKimmey to Grandson Willie: "Now as to the, genealogy — business — My great grand father came from Scotland over 150 years ago and settled in North Carolina — where my father was born McKimmey is Scotch and McKinney is Irish — 40 years ago — I saw a Scotchman in Indiana — who said that he knew persons of my name in Scot-land - In St. Joseph Missouri in 1866 - I knew an old Schochman who told me that there was a large estate and a Castle owned by a big man named McRimmey and that name was very common in that part of Scotland but none of the McKimmeys in America ever got very high up? I dont think that any of them ever went to the county poor house or to Congress - or to the penitentiary — A Cousin of mine was Sheriff of Delaware Co., Indiana 4 years — a brother of mine was Sheriff of Huntington Co., 4 years in Indiana —you saw him in Indiana 15 years ago — and my older brother was surveyor — Harvard Co., I My (first) wifes father was born and raised in Pennsyl-vania — his fore- fathers went from England before the Revo— lutionary War to Pennsylvania — they were there from the begining — devout Psbyterians - My father was a Quaker preacher who said, thee and thou and did’nt sing in church or out of church."
