I am trying to find out more about the famous Samuel Insull (of Insull Utilities) whose company (in)famously lost a lot of money in the Great Depression in the US.
Samuel Insull was born in London on November 11, 1859 and emigrated to the US (apparently via Canada) around 1880 to work for Edison. He died of a heart attack in July 16, 1938, absolutely penniless, in a Paris subway station.
His parents were Samuel Insull and Emma Short, Emma Short was my grandmother's great-aunt.
Does anyone know about this London Insull family? Was he the only one to go to America?
It's not my direct ancestry but I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has a London Insull connection!
