In 1834 the ship Charles Eaton was shipwrecked on entering Torres Strait (just off the NE tip of Australia). In 1836, 2 boys from the ship, were rescued from an island where they had been looked after by natives. They were William D'Oyly, a passenger aged about 5, and Jack or John Ireland, a crew member, probably a cabin boy. The boys were sent to Sydney, Australia and William was returned to family in England.
Can anyone tell me more about the fate of Jack Ireland?
