Richard,
Thanks for the info on Judy Olsen.I will post to her and see if she can help.
I too lived in Burlington County until June of 2001.We lived in Shamong Township. At that time I did not know of the connection to Ireton.Wish I had.
I find it strange that we both have connections to a Samuel with a son named William. And if I read your previous e-mails correctly, your Samuel and William hailed from Burlington County.Do you think they are connected or just common names of the times?
I have several letters written by Iretons that traveled out west to Iowa and Missouri. They include Anna's brother Henry, who I haven't been able to track down yet. They wrote letters to my gggreat grandmother Anna Ireton Merrell Cousins in the 1860's.They've been kept in their original envelopes all these years.
I also have a letter written by William Ireton dated April 1863, to Anna (addressed Dear Sister) from Murfreesboro Tennessee. He tells of fighting at the Battle of Stone River. Also that a man named Hasbo from Detroit has come down and made a "short but enthusiastic speech to our regiment....he said the people of... MIchigan felt a great interest in our welfare........".
Does this make it THREE William Iretons that fought in the Civil War???
