George E. Irish, in his book "John Irish His Life and Ancestors 1086-1677", p. 12, identifies "Cliddesden Parish" in Hampshire, being called Clisdon Parish in the 17th century. Furthermore, on p. 9, he suggests John was the illegitimate son of John Irishe and Elizabeth Twytt (p. 5). He was born c. 1617 in Barrow, Somersetshire (6 miles NE of Congresbury). In the supplement, he disproves John as being the son of Elizabeth Twytt. He lists a number of John Irishes who might be the immigrant, but nothing is proved.
In the 1790 U.S. Census for Maine, is an Ichabod Irish of Union. He was born in Little Compton, RI. I presume that he was a descendant of John. Does anyone have the proof?
