Salut, Tansi, and hello! I'm looking to connect with anyone who may be doing research on the Saskatchewan Metis and Native Isbister family. Members of this family originated from the Orkney Islands.
I am particularly interested in ancestors and siblings of James Isbister, who worked in the Fur Trade for the HBC at Fort Carlton where he was postmaster. Upon his retirement he settled at what is now Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The Isbisters married Native women, were involved in the 1885 rebellion at Batoche, and are mentioned in several historical publications (i.e. HBC, National Archives, Canadian history books).
I have compiled a database of my family roots containing nearly 10,000 names, many of them of Metis and Native Fur Trade families in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I am interested in the history of the Isbister family particularly for the past 150 years in Manitoba/Saskatchewan.
Other Metis/Native/Fur Trade names of interest for me are: Cook, Nault, Fosseneuve, Brittain, Arcand, McPherson, Leclair, Villeneuve, Robertson, Beeds/Beads and Bremner.
If anyone would like information or has recent research on the Isbister family or other Metis/Native/Fur Trade names and would like to get together to compare notes, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
