I've seen a little about Edmund Jackson on these boards, but wondering if anyone has found anymore on him and his family?
Edmund Jackson born about 1782 NC (per 1850 & 60 census).Married to Nancy Powell prior to 1839 (don't have exact date or place).I believe Nancy was the daughter of Francis Powell and Nancy Whitehead.
I believe he may have been living in or near Wilkes County, GA; to Greene County, GA; to Meriwether County, GA; then finally Chambers County, AL where he is found on the 1850 and 1860 census and on the 1850 Alabama State census.
Found this in the "Marriage Records 1833-1866, Chambers County, AL, Volume 1," by Nell Orr, Mary Frances Webb and Mary Hamilton: "(Page) 188 EDMOND JACKSON, Minister of the Gospel Baptist Church, authorized to perform marriages, 10-1-1838, James Thompson, Judge of Orphans Court."He is then listed as performing at least 34 marriages in Chambers County, AL.The last being in 1859.
Would like to know if he had any children??Also, what church could he have been minister of?
I believe he may be a son of Drury Jackson and Nancy Ann Mayfield, but do not have any proof.Wondering if someone else may have that proof or proof of another connection?
Edmund is also listed as a witness on the will of Absalom Jackson dated August 29, 1838.Could he have been a brother of Absalom?I believe Absalom was born about 1781.He was married to Abigal ?? at the time of his will and lists 3 children: Abigal, Phebe, and Mary.Although, I believe he may have had more children then these, but these 3 were living at home at the time of his death.Absalom also had ties to Robert Brooks of Georgia and Thomas Jefferson Brooks of Georgia and Alabama.Owned property together and lived near one another.Absalom can be traced in 1820 to Jones County, GA with a large family; to Meriwehter County, GA in 1830; and then Chambers County, GA in 1838.
One other connection I would like to add, is with Matilda Jackson. She married Jethro Hamlin in 1825 in Morion County, GA.They are living next door to Edmund and Mary in the 1850 census in Chambers County, AL.Matilda has a son named Absalom, but not one named Edmund.Wondering if Edmund might be an uncle??
Any info on any of these people would be greatly appreciated.
