Julius Jacobi(y) was born in Cassel, Germany 7 Sep 1893 and immigrated to New York October 1910 on the "Rotterdam" from the port of Rotterdam. He was listed as a baker. His closest relative in Germany was listed as Johann Jacobi.Julius settled in Brooklyn, New York and was married to Anna, aged 30 in the 1920 U.S. Federal Census. She was from Germany and had immigrated in 1906.They had a daughter listed as Josephine Age 4 born in New York. His occupation was a baker. They lived at 690 Evergreen.
Julius was registered for the W.W.I Draft at age 24 and his occupation listed was a "bricker" (perhaps this was a misprint of baker?) and he was married. His W.W.II Draft Registration of 1942 at age 48 notes he was part-time employed as a baker at Mr. Layer's Bakery on Central Avenue near Gates Avenue in Brooklyn. His address was given as 2012 Woodbine St., Queens, New York.
His Social Security Death Record lists his death as Feb 1967 and his last address as 11420 Jamaica, Queens. He was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery February 2, 1967 in Lot 180 Section 12173.His gravestone has the names Jacobi and Brandis indicating the two families buried in that section, but no specifics. The stone was relatively new compared to the other stones in the section.
I am trying to find out how he knew my ancestors and what relationsip he shared with them, if any, especially since he was sharing the headstone. The original purchaser of the cemetery plot was Heinrich (Henry) Brandis (1812-1876) the original immigrant of my Brandis Family line from Hildesheim, Hanover in May 1856 to Brooklyn.
