My 3rd great grandmother was Sarah Jacobs Cady. She was born 08 May 1816, in Uniontown, Fayette Co, PA. She died 02 Aug 1887 in Harrisville, Alcona Co., MI. Sarah may have been the great granddaughter of a Delaware Indian named Tewea. Tewea was also known as Capt Jacobs, because he resembled a large man of German ancestry who lived in the Area, near Kittanning, Armstrong, Co, PA.Tewea (Capt Jacobs) his wife, a captured white women, and their son knows as the King’s Son, said to be 7 feet tall, were killed in the Blanket Hill Massacre on 8 Sep 1756 in Kittanning, Armstrong Co, PA.
It is believed that other children of Tewea’s, siblings of King’s son) and other Indians from Kittanning, were sent into hiding in the near by woods and escaped the massacre. . Tewea was responsible for killing a number of white settlers, including the brother of John Armstrong. Lt. Col. John Armstrong commanded the 2nd Battalion, Pennsylvania Regiment during the French and Indian Wars. This Regiment was not a local militia unit but a regular provincial regiment raised to support the British Army. The British had placed a bounty on Tewea.
It is believed that one of the surviving children of Tewea taken into the woods was Thomas (Jacobs) born about 1754. Thomas had a son William (Jacobs) born about 1790 and my Sarah was his daughter. Sarah may have had a brother named Thomas born about 1811 and another brother named William born about 1814.
I have read all I can find on the massacre on the Internet. Does anyone know if there is anywhere there might be info on the Indian survivors, children of Tewea (Capt Jacobs)???
