Karen Carpenter-another Jacoups researcher
All, Just wanted to give all the info I can on this forum(but no addresses please). If you know Karen here is an e-mail I received from her a while back.I sent it to some but I know not to everyone. She mentions Indian stuff for the Western Cherokee application her family made...
Also, she mentions a John M. Jacoups.Seems like I have only seen John A. Jacoups(or maybe John A. Jacobs).Any comments on that?
"Hello Jared,
Wow!This is great, I had no idea that we had so many relatives.Of course I will send you a copy of the application that my family sent in to get our member number in the Cherokee Nation.I will also send a copy of a blank application for you to submit.Like I told Betty, I do not know if the Cherokee is from my grandfather Jacoups or my grandmother(his wife). Her family name was Goins. On the application we had both. When I send the application, I will send our member number incase it is with the Jacoups side. Then, you will have a easier time because the research has been done. The Western Cherokee Nation is who we sent in the applications to.I called them the other day. They had a large response because of what our ex President Clinton did with the new bill he put in as of 10-31-00.They got back logged because of the response being so large. You can sign on to the Western Cherokee nation website at:

My sister Joyce is going to make copies of the applications and some pictures we have and we will get them out.
My oldest sister Joann has the original discharge papers from the Army for John M. Jacoups. We have a picture of him in his uniform dated 1917.Before my grandmother, Hattie E. Jacoups died in 1981 she gave us a lot of pictures. John Jacoups had a construction company in Chattanooga, TN. It was called Jacoups Construction. We have a picture of him in front of one of the buildings he was building in 1929.
It sounds like our family is quite large. If we were to have a reunion we might need the whole state of Alabama.I think its great.
Take care, keep in touch.
