Dr. Charles E. Bryant in his book "The Tensaw Country North of the Ellicott Line" poses an interesting theory that Jesse and his brother Frank may have spent several months in the Tensaw Country of Alabama (now Monroe anc Baldwin Counties). Quote:"Could it be true that the noted James brothers, Jesse and Frank, spent time in and around the Tensaw Country? It is a fact that the wife of Jesse James was a Mims maiden of the same ancestry as the Mims of the Tensaw Country and Monroe County. Several rumors have surfaced that Jesse and Frank spent some time in the area and one of the brothers became romantically involved with Preacher A. J. Lambert's daughter. One rumor is that Jesse posed as a doctor in Escambia County (AL) for several months." My wife is of the Mims line and is related to Zerelda Amanda Mims, Jesse's wife by marriage.
I would appreciate any thoughts on the above although I would have to agree with Dr. Bryant that it is more than likely unproven proven rumors.
