I am looking for Tobias James in Burke Co., N.C. as two of his children said they were born in N.C.He was in KY, by 1789, but I thought his parents or siblings might still be in Burke Co., N.C.
In the Tax Rolls that they used, there were no Census for this area.I find some James in the 1790 - 5th Company of Burke Co.,N.C.They are:Jos. James, and Rollin James,
Then in the 9th Company there are:Mary James, Thomas James, and William James.
I know that the two families are not related as there has been a DNA, which clears one family from the other.
I ordered a LDS Film # 988930 for Burkes Co., N.C. and I find that a William James was listed as being in Burke Co., in June 18, 1778,Then I find a James James as being in Burke Co., July 21, 1778.I then find that William James entry in Burke Co., for 500 Acres entered 7th day of December, 1778.
I then find that Thompson Joseph James enters 50 Acres lying on Franklin Creek a branch of John's RiverBeginning at John Churches line.Thence up the Creek to William William's line taking in the vacant land for compliment.October 27, 1785
There is an Edm'd James, and a Wm. James and they are close to these dates.I have not copied their information yet and I have not finished the film yet.
I thought I would forward this info, as I see there was a message about Thompson Joseph James and there was one in Burke Co., N.C. in 1785, and it might help by following him in that area.
