Carlos:
The following is the text of a msg I received by e-mail in response to my posting on the Harper forum (#2410)...maybe it will help...
"The parents of your Charles and my John were Joseph Janney Harper b. abt 1792 and his 1st wife, Eliza Anne Greenway. She was also his 1st cousin and was b. abt 1792.They were m. 26 Dec 1811 in Culpeper Co., VA.
Their children were:
1.John Smither b. 22 Feb 1818, m. 1st Juilet Amanda Butts 21 Dec 1842 and then Catherine (Mrs. Marcus) Kirtley, widow 9 Aug 1889.He died 24 Jan 1908 in Mooresville, MO and is buried in the Unica MO Cem. in Utica, Livingston Co., MO.Juliet d. 28 Dec 884 same place and bur same cem.
2.Lucy Anne m. Morbourne Martin
3.William m. Nancy Kirk and d. 2 Mar 1903 in Westminister, CA
4.Charles (fill me in on this line--births, deaths, marriages, children, etc.--you say family is "buried here," but where is here!?)
5.Eliza Mary (or Mary Eliza) m. Hudson J. Martin
6.Twyman (or Timan) m. Elizabeth Hopkin
The parents of Eliza Greenway were Joseph Greenway probably b. abt 1772.He was a Storekeeper and m. Rebecca Harper.(Rebecca was sister to Joseph Janney Harper's father, thus Eliza and Joseph's 1st cousin relationship.)Joseph Greenway d. Dec 1793.Rebecca was b. 16 Aug 1759 and d. before May 1809.
A goodly amount of this info can be found in the 1938 book "Lewises, Meriwethers and Their Kin," Sarah Travers Lewis (Scott) Anderson. This book says that Joseph Greenway was the "son of the Captain Greenway of the ship, 'Welcome' upon which Penn arrived in 1682."While there are some errors in the book (isn't there always?) I have found more to be correct than incorrect, but have not been able to prove this statement about Joseph's father or discover who "Captain Greenway" was.
And, by the way, Meriwether Lewis was 1/2 of the team of Lewis & Clark who blazed the trail all the way to the Pacific for the 1st time. The Harpers also tie into that family."
I am trying to learn more about Joseph Greenway's parentage...but so far not much luck.Have you checked the Greenway forum? Will advise if I come up with anything else on this...what lines are you researching?
