Thomas Jelinek was my grandfather. I have very little information on him. I do not know whether had any brother or sisters, though I once heard he was named after a child who had died. He was born 29 Dec 1879 in Prague. He was a Merchant Marine with ? Havelcek (?). According to family legends, he and H. jumped ship on the west coast somewhere and they traveled eastward together. They ended up in a small town in Ohio near the end of 1905, where he met and married my grandmother, Helen Polcar. My grandmother had recently arrived from Bohemia and was living with her older sister in the small town, Dillonvale, Ohio, near the borders of Pennsylvania and WV borders. Although my grandfather had been a wandering throughout the US as a tinker or "a traveling salesman," he lived in Dillonvale, Ohio for the rest of his life. He died June 1951. I would like any information about his life before he met my grandmother, or about my grandmother, Helen Polcar. She arrived in US in late 1905; her sister, Anna was about 18 years older, the only 2 who came to US. There are others who remained in Europe; names I remember are Antoinette and Caroline, to whom my grandmother wrote until the 40's or 50's. My grandmother's dates: 3 Jan 1885 - 18 Feb 1990. Four children: Mary, James, Helen (my mother), Gerald. Thank you for whatever help you can provide.
