Robert Jellison was born about 1746.(1) His son John was born around 1771 in New Jersey.(2) Robert Jellison “was a pew-holder at Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church in Basking Ridge, Morris County, New Jersey between 1769 and 1776 and between 1783 and 1786.”(3) Robert Gelleson appears in a militia list in Morris County, New Jersey in May 1778.(4) He appears as Robert Gellison in the 1778 Ratable (tax) list for Morris Township, Morris County, New Jersey and as Robert Jealison in the 1780 list for the same place.(5)
The 1790 Census shows Robert Gillison in Derry Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania as follows: 3 males over 16 (which would be Robert and sons John and Ephraim); 1 male under 16 (son Robert) and two females (wife Margaret and daughter Polly). The size of Robert's family in 1790 corresponds exactly with the beneficiaries named in his will.
