Hi Howard,
It seems we share a first name, I go by my second name but the first is Howard. My branch of the family comes from Botwood which but I have reason to believe we originall came from the Spaniards Bay - Harbour Grace area as I have information about a James Jure being married to an Annie Garland of Upper Island Cove. He would have been born circa 1798.Also I have an Eli Jure married to a Louisa Bursey of Lower Island Cove. He was born in 1823. Since all of the early "Jures" of Botwood and Morton's Harbour were illiterate I surmise that the "Jure"" was simply spelt as the census taker or preacher heard it. The two names were used interchangably for the first 2 or 3 generations of my material.I have a Henry Jure who the son of James and Annie Garland, I have him with 1 son, Jim and others whom I don't have a name for. If you have any more light to shed on this I will surely appreciate hearing from you
