Hi Janice, I have found severak apparent varations on the name as well, ie., Jewer, Jewers, Jure, Joure and Jur'n. These may be different families actually. I believed Jure, Jewer and Jewers were really the same ancestory, the difference being illiteracy and the name being spelt by a minister, census taker etc by the sound of the name. I did find a couple who, in their will the name was Joure but their headstone said Jewer and the census indicated Jure. Now I am thinking there is a strong chanch that Jewer and Jure being quite different in thatr Jure came from Croatia while Jewer came from Dorset area in England. Also there is a penchant here in Nfld. for names to have a different last name to indicate religion eg. Walsh is generally protestant while Walshe is Roman Catholic the same for Green and Greene. These are only surmises on my part based on some unrelated data. Good luck in your search.
