I am interested to obtain information about ancestors and descendants of Ludwig Mathias Johannsen, born 4 July 1832, in Apenrade, Schleswig, now part of Denmark."Apenrade" is also spelled "Aabenraa" and "Åbenrå".
Ludwig came to California in 1849. He settled in French Corral, Nevada County, California. In 1856 he sold his interest in a mine, a toll road, bridge, and cabin near German Gulch. In 1871, he settled in Sonoma, California, and took up dairy farming. His farm was 4 miles east of Sonoma on the Napa road. He was a member of the Masonic Order for 50 years. He and his first wife, Jacobine, and Helena are buried in Mountain Cemetery, Sonoma, California.
I would also like to learn about ancestors and descendants of Ludwig's wife, Jacobine. Her maiden name is unknown, but possibly was Jepson. She was born 31 October 1834 in Apenrade. She died 18 May 1888 in Sonoma.
Ludwig later married Helene Valquardsen (or Volquardsen), a widow who had four children and who immigrated from Germany to Sonoma in 1890.Her father was D. Damm and mother Johanna Callesen, both born in Denmark.Helene was born 11 Jan 1845 in Denmark and died 22 Dec 1930 in Sonoma.
