Hi -Thanks for the list of spellings;some of them I hadn't seen before, but most of my "Johnisee" census searching has been on the microfilms so I hadn't run into the indexing problems before.Quite a challenge !
I've collected some information that may be helpful to you -
1-Feb. 1798, Rowan Co., a deed from Benjamin Boon to James JOHNESEY for 300 A. on Hunting Creek adjacent Thomas Penny/Pennery & Black.(McCubbin collection spells it Johneasey)
2-1790 census shows Benjamin Boon farm, pgs. 297-298.
3-1800 Rowan Co., pg. 443 - there's a James JONES household that could fit James "Johnisee" family with some of the same neighbors as the 1790 Boon census.
4-Aug. 1812, Rowan Co., a deed from John Linville to James YANASAY, both of Rowan Co., for 118 A. on Dutchman's Creek on line of John McElheney, John Langford & John Hendricks.
5-Nov. 1814, Rowan Co., a deed from James YANNASEY to Joshua Brinniger, both of Rowan Co., for 71-1/2 A. on Dutchman's Creek next John McHaney.
1820 Rowan Co., Joshua Brinegar is on pg. 216;John Johnessee on pg. 218;Thomas Penery on pg. 204, all in Yadkin.
1805 - James Jonassa was witness on a Rowan Co. will.
1807 - James Johnnecy bondsman on a marriage.
1811 - James Jonniscea bondsman on a marriage.
Another thing that caught my eye in the 1810 census - on pg. 66 are these two side by side - although it probably doesn't mean anything, I had made a note of it:
JAMES Glascock2-0-1-00/1-0-1-000
JOHNSY Gaither000-1-0/00-1-00
