Rella C. Johnson, 92, of Weber City, VA, went to be with
the Lord on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Wellmont Holston
Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN.
She was a lifelong resident of Scott County. She was a
charter member of Salley’s Chapel Baptist Church where she
taught Sunday School.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Rhea
Curtis Johnson; parents, Charles Ray Smith, Sr. and Eva
Davidson Smith; and brothers, Walker 'Pete' Smith and
James H. Smith.
Rella Johnson is survived by her sons, Jack R. Johnson and
wife Linda, Gate City, VA, Robert H. Johnson and wife
Nell, Bridgewater, VA, and Darryl E. Johnson and wife
Sheila, Weber City, VA; her grandchildren, Eric Johnson
and wife Toby, Melanie Cox and husband Brian, John Johnson
and wife Rhonda, Adam Johnson, Sara Ahneman and husband
Jim, Jason Johnson and Kristen Porter, Matthew Johnson and
wife Kellie, and Andrew Johnson and wife Amanda; great
grandchildren, Benjamin Johnson, Cooper Johnson, Alyssa
Barrett, Jackson Barrett, Hunter Cox, Logan Cox, Karenell
Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Austin Johnson, Trenton Johnson,
Jacob Johnson, Jonah Johnson, and Lily Johnson; a sister,
Marion Gibson, Bristol, TN; her brother, Charles. R. Smith,
Jr., Gate City, VA; a longtime friend and neighbor,
Kathryn Ball; along with several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks goes out to Jennifer McConnell for her
caring assistance of Rella Johnson.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, from
5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Scott County Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, July 17,
2012, at 7 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor
George Winegar officiating. Music will be provided by
Salley’s Chapel Trio.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 18,
2012, at 11 a.m., at Holston View Cemetery with family and
friends serving as pallbearers. Family and friends
attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the
funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to go in procession.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
Salley’s Chapel Baptist Church, 134 Chapel Street, Weber
City, VA 24290.
