Headline: Local VFW Will Hold “Cigarette Dance” on Poppy Day
Memorial Post 5036, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will hold a Poppy Day Cigarette dance Saturday, May 28, at the post hall, 11 E. Main St.
The unique feature of this dance will be the admission charge - two packs of cigarettes per person.Any brand is acceptable, but they must be presented at the door in lieu of tickets.
These cigarettes will be distributed to the men at the Elgin Veterans hospital. The local VFW reports that a great need exists at this hospital because of the large number of men confined there. One building alone contains 750 men, stated Post member Albert Van Zandt.
Ross Jordon has been appointed general chariman and Dario Cotti co-chairman. These men are especially interested in having as large a participation as possible in the event, even fromthose who will be unable to attend the dance. Cigarettes may be donated anyway.
The VFW Pontiac will be on Main st. throughout Poppy Day. An attendant wil be on hand to receive all donations of cigarettes.A goal of 1,000 packages has been set.
