Let's stir the Pot!!!! Jubayr anyone?

By Jerome Lafayette St.John April 08, 2003 at 07:00:05

I am descended from Abram Jubar. The name obviously is not widely known like the Smiths! I am currently reading a book written by Abu 'l-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ahmad Ibn Jubayr,or, Ibn Jubayr for short. He was born in 1145! He was born in Valencia, Spain (Moorish or Arabic Spain). His father was 'Abd al-Salam Ibn Jubayr, from the tribe of Kinanah, Mecca, Saudi Arabia. If the name were Smith or Jones I would chalk it up to coincidence. However, since it is Joubert,Jubar,Jabbar,Jubayr, I am inclined to think twice-particularly since Ibn Jubayr outdates the earliest of our posts by 500 years!

Are there any french historians out there? I thought that I had read at one time that there were several arab/moor invasions along the mediterranean coast of France, perhaps in the 15th or 16th centuries. Could this be a byproduct?
