Juleff in Ladock, Cornwall, England
Gary (especially!), my Grandfather William Francis Kittow Juleff (c. 1898 - 1978) was born in Ladock. He had brothers John (called Jack) and Mansell, and sisters Aida, Gwenn and Nell.He married Emily Searle (1900 - 1976) and moved to Probus (about 4 miles away) and had Norman William Joseph, Dennis Edward (my Dad) and Patricia Lorraine. Only my Dad is still alive. He cannot remember his Grandfather's (ie William's Dad)christian name, but knows that he was a horseman on the Strongman family's Trendeal Farm and they lived in Higher Cot, Ladock, having come from Trevellis near Ladock. His Uncle John, called Jack, had a large family of sons and daughters including twins, most living or lived in Cornwall. His Uncle Mansell went to Australia ("under a bit of a cloud").I am also a twin (the other "half" is called Clive who has a son called Gareth, plus two stepdaughters) I also have an older brother David, who has step children.
There are, to my knowledge, "unrelated Juleffs" who come from New Mills near Ladock, plus families in Grampound and Tregony (where Paul Juleff was a butcher).
As a boy I remember reading a book of Cornish names in Truro Market bookshop that said "Juleff" was the "correct" spelling, with others as Jolliffe, etc, and that it meant "pleasant and aimiable" in Cornish (but I have not found the book since!).
Would appreciate any info on Mansell Juleff in Oz (if that is where he went!)
