THE JULIEN MURDER at MARYSVILLE -- The ‘Express,’ of March 26th, contains the testimony in full taken before the Coroner’s Jury, summoned to investigate the causes of the death of Philip S. JULIEN, together with the finding of the Jury. According to the verdict, deceased came to his death by the hands of some unknown assassins. The following is the testimony of the widow of the murdered man:
Mrs. Annie Brayson JUILEN, being sworn, says: About 2 o’clock Friday morning some persons came to the door and knocked; I told my husband I thought it was Tom, not the prisoner, but Tom who lived at Wm. FALLS; told my husband to get up and let him in; at the 2nd knock husband got up, took a light and went to the door and said Tom, come in; the light was then knocked out of his hand; I heard the men say that they had been hard up and wanted $1,000; I then got up and handed Mr. JULIEN the money; the men said if he does not give up the money knock him down; Mr. JULIEN said, boys it is hard to give up the money. I have worked hard for it, and will lose the last drop of my blood before I will give it up; they then knocked him down; heard one of them say he has got a wife then; one had on a large grey coat; went out of the back door to give alarm and fainted and fell; do not know when I got up; heard the noise in the house after I got up; went over to Mr. MILLERs and gave the alarm; Tom came here the next morning; came to the bedside of my husband, and said he had been arrested she had called to Mr. JULIEN to let Tom in; had not seen Tom; does not think Tom or the other man was in the house; the man in the grey coat had a clear voice; I asked Mr. JULIEN if he knew the man; said he could not tell; neither can witness; there is nothing in the voices except the tall man, which I can think was the voice of the persons; the match gave a short light, enough to distinguish a grey coat; JULIEN thought the 2 men inside were Americans, but could not tell; he forgot things soon as said; if either of the 2 prisoners shown me had spoken, think I could have recollected their voices.
THE JULIEN MURDER -- Spiritual Information We copy the following from the Marysville ‘Inquirer’ of yesterday 26th. To those spiritually inclined it will be received with great interest:
Quite a stir was created in our city yesterday by the announcement that a communication had been received from the spirit of a well known citizen, who has been but a few weeks in the spirit land, in relation to the JULIEN murder case. The spirit (through the medium, Mr. WARDNER), stated that the parties who were arrested a few days since as being implicated in the murder of Mr. JUILEN, were really the guilty persons, and one of them, naming him, struck the fatal blow. Further than the proceeds of the robbery is at this time buried, but did not indicate the exact location. The last mentioned fact is deemed unnecessary by the spiritual informant, as he goes on to intimate that one of the accused, also naming and describing him, will, in a short time, turn State’s evidence, thereby unraveling the whole mystery connected with the affair.
