Paul,
Thanks for responding. The internet is great for this stuff, especially if you have a little patience.Obviously your's is the right family. The assumption I'm making here is that my Great-Grandfather, Martin Kaelin, is in fact your Great-Grandfather's (Victor Kaelin) brother.I make that assumption because Victor was a witness for Martin's marriage to Elizabeth Striegel in Louisville.Records show that Martin was a diary farmer born in Switzerland and at one point owned a house on Goldsmith Lane.Martin and Elizabeth then had a son they named Martin Victor Kaelin (my grandfather). As an aside, my Mother's maiden name is Marie Kaelin.
Now I'll have to recheck my records but the the date of Victor Kaelin's birth would have been derived from a census record (probably the 1900 census).I've done most of my genealogy research at the National Archives in Washington, DC where the Census records are kept.I live in Northern Virginia.I probably have more information pertaining to the long version of that record (e.g. occupation, city/county/street address, country of origin, etc.), which I have printed and can provide to you.
I'm interested in finding out more about Jeremius and Martina Kaelin from Switzerland but first I'd like to make sure my assumptions are correct.
Cheers,
Jim Rodgers
