I am responding to my original msg. with hopes of finding answers to my deadend quest to my Kaestner tribe; however I have come at wit's end.Mainly frusterated with the confusion of the spelling of the town/village Wettenburg as it appeared on church records of the Reorganised Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,(RLDS).Undoubtfully my ggranfather knew where he was born, and I will concede that when comming to the US the "berg" was changed to "burg", and "Wetten" may have transfered to "Witten".I have located the villiage Wettenberg near Geissen and an area, just to the north, on the map that appears as a district for reason that it is in capital letters.Further I have located the Wittenburgs of Sachseny-Anhalt and Neidersachen, as well as the Wittenberge of Martin Luther King fame.My problem is, each of these locations are of a distance of more than 100km from the town of Oebisfelde, where his sister was born 3 years later in 1848.It seems improbable that persons of the 1840s in Prussia would have moved just for movings sake, and if so that far away.It has been suggested that perhaps the town was Weddingdorf which is only a couple of km from Oebisfelde.I have done an anlysis looking for a concentration of Kaestner(s), but none appear to be in any of these areas. Any suggestions?also during my research of the Kaestner name,I have noticed that there are serveral of prominence; but have not seen them mentioned in any of genealogy information. To mention a few, To wit: Erich Kaestner, author and teacher, who wrote under the pseudonym, Berthol Buerger, who was a banned author in Nazi Germany and his books were among those burnt in 1933. Movie: Muenchhausen (1943)as well of kinder schools being named for him; or Hank Kaestner a noted bird watcher in Uganda and Ziair; or Uwe Kaestner, German ambassador to South Africa.Where is the linkage to the Kaestner mathamaticians of great fame? With only approx. 3000 Kaestners in Germany, and only about 350 in the US. Un-realistically, I would like to think that all are somehow from a common ancestry. But none of these seem to connect. What can the reason be for why?By the way, I have the addresses of the majority of the Kaestners in the US if anyone is interested.Park M. Kaestner Kansas City, MO.
