Hi Larry,
I have no idea how Elisha Kail became associated with the Catawba County Kales.I am absolutely positive that Elisha (1815-1880) was the son of Jacob Kail.As best I can tell, Jacob was in Edgecombe County, North Carolina as early as 1810.
Prior to his move to Tennessee, in 1838, Jacob deeded a tract of land in Edgecombe County to his "son, Elisha."Jacob and another son, Josiah, were listed in Haywood County, Tennessee on the 1840 census, while Elisha remained in Edgecombe County.Elisha moved to Haywood County in 1849.
Jacob Kail made his will in Haywood County on 12 Feb 1850, naming wife, Mary; sons Josiah and Elisha; daughters, Nancy Amerson and Rebecca Robbins; and grandson Elisha K. Robbins. The will was probated on 4 Nov.
A word of caution:Some researchers have confused Jacob Kail (1781-1850) and his wife, Mary (maiden name unknown), with a Jacob Kail (1793-1869) who married a Mary Whitmore and lived in Ohio. These Jacobs were two different individuals.Their dates have been skewed in some records.
