I wonder if Sampson was really born in 1793. If so, is marriage date for George Christopher Knoertzer, Jr. and Barbary Neat (daughter of Hans Rudolph Neat and Maria Marcretha Frey) really 31 March 1800. One source has later birthdate for Sampson. Could be that it came from an entry:b. AFT 1 Jan 1793, an estimate from examining the census. Have you seen Sampson's burial site? In response to your statement about Barbary-2 things. 1-There is a Barbary Kizer listed in North Carolina in 1840 and 1850 Census. Seems like a far-cry from the other Knoertzer-Kanatzer-Knetzer surnames but not far from Kritzer-Critser surnames. And Barbary seems to be an unusual form of Barbara, although I don't know that for sure. Hans, Sr, Barbary's grandfather is listed as being married to a woman named Barbir or Barbury(maiden name unknown). 2-Did Barbary move with one of the other two sons or one of the two daughters? In addition to being neighbors of Sampson, wife and daughter in 1820 Adair Census, Barbary is listed as head of household with 2 daughters and 3 sons, one fitting the age range for George Canatsey(b. 1804-my direct line). Did other 2 sons use Canatsey or Kanatzer or Canastey or what? Where are their descendants? Kansas? Missouri? Where? If Barbary returned or stayed in KY or NC, she sould have changed surname spelling again to fit with neighboring kin.A lot of questions for us to answer, huh!?
