My great grandfather was named Wolff Karp (born 13 May 1875)and I'm told he was born in Kiev and immigrated to the US with his mother and brother(s?) in the late 1800's. Some family members say he came in through Ellis Island and others say somewhere along the Gulf Coast. What I do know is that he married my great grandmother Emily Wilmot (born 20 Nov. 1875 in Corpus Christi, TX to James Wilmot and Maria? Ruiz) on 30 January, 1897 in Duval, TX. They had 9 children - 4 girls and 5 boys. At least four of those children are now deceased, including my grandmother, Lillian Emily Karp Schmidt. I can give you more, including anecdotes told to me by my father and aunt. They do not seem too know a lot about their grandfather, Wolff Karp, but he is remembered as a man of droll humor and many talents. They agree that he demonstrated an ability to speak many languages and was always a careful dresser. My aunt has in her possession very old photographs of stern-looking men with yarmulkes and full beards. The writing on the back is in a Cyryllic script.
