Your suggestion about Joseph and Mary Kaye in the 1841 Census might be a possibility. They married in 1806 in Almondbury, and then they were living at Smithy Place. All their children were recorded in the Honley section of the Parish Register and I've been looking for them there.Their eldest son was John b 18 Feb 1806 Smithy Place and the John, William and George you mention might be his children? My grandmother was descended from a younger son George b 8 June 1814 who maried Harriette Theaker 18 Feb 1844 Honley. They lived in the Thirston area, but the family had moved to Taylor Hill, near Lockwood by 1854.
I'll check the 1841 and 1851 Census for Lockwood to see if I can find out more.A birth year might help to select from the 9 Josephs baptised in Almondbury around 1780.
I have transcribed the Honley Baptisms from 1815-1824 looking for Kayes and Theakers, but I couldn't see any John Kayes in that period. The only one I found in 1818 was bapt. 22 Mar 1818 Almondbury to Joseph and Mary Ogden.I looked for Wood Top Honley too, but I could only find Honley Wood Bottom.... does Wood Top hover above it I wonder? If it's in that area the records might be in the Meltham section of the register which I didn't transcribe.
The only George A Kaye I found was in the 1861 Census for Lockwood age 19, b. Almondbury and his father was Joseph.
I know none of this helps you, but thanks for the tip about Joseph, Yours, Eddie.
