Our branch of the keane family came to Wigan, Lancashire in 1870 (approximately) and My great Grandfather, Patrick Keane married Mary Gallery from Ennistymon at St Joseph's RC church in 1871 and they had six children, one of whom was Edward, my Grand father. All subsequent family is well known and well documented. From their humble origins in Ireland, the Keane family has prospered and today is a well respected family.
I have reasonably good records for Mary Gallery, but I have had difficulty tracing Patrick's birth, although I know from his marriage certificate that his father was Timothy Keane and his mother was Bridgit (nee Fitzgerald). According to family legend, either Timothy, or his children from an earlier marriage, went to Australia. Patrick is supposed to have been born / brought up on Inish Man (Aran Islands) during the famine - which may explain the difficulty in tracing him. Any one with a similar Keane story, let me know.
