Venus A. Kalinski, 85, of Grand Island, formerly of St. Paul, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Riverside Lodge Retirement Community in Grand Island. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas Hyde will officiate. Burial will be in the Souleville Cemetery in rural Boelus.
Mrs. Kalinski was cremated.
Mrs. Kalinski was born Oct. 15, 1919, at Sweetwater to Henry and Elsie Kocherscheidt Seeber.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Marcella Keane of Palma Valley, Calif., and James Keane of Grand Island.
Also surviving are two granddaughters and their husbands, Lori and Russ Homolka, and LeAnn and Kurt Schultz, all of Grand Island; three stepgrandchildren, Pat and Connie Powell of Stromsburg, Jo and James Byrd of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Laura Powell of Chicago; three great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Venus grew up and received her education at Boelus, graduating from Boelus High School. After graduation, Venus moved out of state and married Charles Keane.
Venus married John F. Kalinski on June 10, 1949, at Las Vegas. The couple made their home in Indio, Calif., where she was employed at a date factory.
In 1962, she returned to the Boelus area and was employed at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant until her retirement. She later moved to the St. Paul area for several years, before entering the Riverside Lodge Retirement Community in Grand Island in April of 2004.
She was a member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit 119 of St. Paul and the Daughters of the Civil War.
She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of two local St. Paul bridge clubs. She spent many hours knitting, freestyle painting, and crocheting for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Leonard, who was killed in Italy in 1945.
