I have been trying to trace my family of the kearsey's without much luck. My father Joseph was born in london in 1914 and my grandfather christopher was born in hove in 1888 in Sussex. His father I believe was a solicitor in Lincoln Inn fields and due to some problem was forced to give up his career and my grandfather was sent to an orphanage. I have not got proof but rumour has it that he had an affair with an an actress and was disinherited. I came across a Kearsey in an old directory of "whose who" and lists him as a serving officer in the army and listedthree sons. two were named, and one was not.
I am trying to trace anthing that could be of help.
I also believe that they came from the norfolk/ essex borders, There is a villiage in Norfolk called kearsey and also a town in Lancashire. There is also a villiage near Dover called kearsney although I have yet to make any connections.
Kersey is a cloth and is mentioned in Shakespeare Midsummer Nights dream, so the dates would go back to the early 16 C
