Patrick Keating was born in Marlow Parish, Mullyns, County Carlow, Ireland sometime in the 1820's.He emmigrated to Newfoundland sometime in the 1840's or 1850's.
His first wife, Margaret was born about 1829 in County Carlow, and died October 29, 1879 in St.John's, Newfoundland.
They had three children:John Peter, June 1855; Peter, about 1870 (died August 21, 1879); Anastasia, October 1862 (died January 1864).
John Peter Keating married Agnes Delaney (born April 1860) and they had five children: Agnes, Marion, Frederick, Mary Margaret (mygreat-grandmother) born June 20, 1885, and Mortimer.
Mary Margaret Keating married Thomas Joseph Power, February 26, 1906, and they had at least eleven children which they raised on Scott Street in St.John's.John Joseph was the oldest, then it was Mary (who we called Marie), Mary Catharine (Molly), Mary Margaret, Thomas Joseph (my grandfather), Bazil Edward, James Benedict, Peter Bonaventure, Frederick Edwin, Lillian, and Edith.Molly (Mary Catharine) died in 1928 and it is reported that she made her own burial clothes!!
My grandfather, Thomas Joseph Power died at age 48 in 1960 in St.John's.He owned and operated his own taxi on Carter's Hill road in St.John's.
