Holloway Key (1777-1855) spelled his name with a 'y'.He married Elizabeth Walker and had four sons that I know of: Holloway (1818-1877), Thomas (b1817), Charles (b 1824), and Isaac.A second marriage produced a Susan.
I have seen lots of claims that Holloway's parents were John Key and Agnes Witt. However, I have been in contact with descendants of that couple and they don't know anything about Holloway. They still live in the area where, supposedly, John and Agnes lived. They also had a list of children and the spouses of the children.Assuming the accuracy of their info, we may dismiss John Key and Agnes Witt as the parents of Holloway.
John Key was a very common name and it was only later that middle names came into common usage.Middle names were prohibited generally among the English and colonists until after the foundation of the United States.
Holloway "may" have been born in Virginia but he was in Wake County, NC, in 1800.One of the censuses listed his birthplace as NC.Tradition has John Key as Holloway's father, but we don't really know.
