I am tracing my wifes family tree, and am currently researching the Keeling branch of it.Here's what I know so far:
My wifes gt Grandmother was Hannah Elizabeth Sarah ann Keeling the daughter of James Keeling and Sarah Ann (Harris). She was born in Shelton, Staffordshire on 12th March 1868. She marriaed George Hickman on 24 Dec 1890 at the Freinds meeting house in Birmingham.
James Keeling, Hannah's father was a bird/dog dealer with a shop at 51 Aston rd Birmingham in the 1890's, though earlier in his life he had been a potter in Hanley, Staffs, where he was born. James married Sarah Ann Harris at Wolstanton staffs on 30 Aug 1863.
James' father was also called James Keeling, living at Hanley, Staffordshire. James Keeling Sr was also a potter (described as such 1841/51/61 census). He married Elizabeth Gotham on 5th Aug 1833 at Wolstanton, Staffs.
James sr was born in Hanley Staffs around 1808 and his parents were yet another James Keeling, and Sarah (- don't know her maiden name).
That's about as much as I have at the moment.I know there was a well known potter called James Keeling working at Hanley in the late 18th century, though I don't know if this was my James Keeling.
If anyone has any more information or is researching the same family, please get in touch.
