LAURENCE KEATOR b.abt 1650-1655 was given a tract of land in Perquimins Precinct, NC. ( Perquimans Precinct was part of Old Albemarle co., NC which was discontinued. In 1751.Laurence and his wife Elizabeth had at least three children born in Perquimans Precinct: 1. John Keator b.abt 1700; 2. Ann Keator b.abt 1702,; 3. William Keator b.abt 1704.Laurence bought land in Perquimans Precinct in 1716. Source: Early Keeter records. Chapter: Bertie Co Keetrs The Keeters first appeared in Perquimmins Precinct before 1696. Laurence Keeter was given a land grand prior to 1696.The location of this grant was the south side of the Pasquotank River.In 1716 Laurence made additional purchases of land along the same river.Laurence died between 1716 & 1730.In 1730 mention is made of the Widow Keeter's land in theChowan Precinct on the Upper end of Meherrin Neck.This is apparently the same land. The Keeters lost their land in Perquimmans Precinct. It is not clear why the land was lost, but court records indicate financial troublesand several attempts to reclaim the land.In any event, Keetersbought several parcels of land in Bertie Co., and most of it was lost after theCivil War.There are still Keeters in Bertie Co., NC and contrary to popular belief, they are all related. Laurence and Elizabeth Keeter had three Children: 1. John Keeter b. 1700..John Keeter married Elizabeth Reid and they had five children: 1. John Keeter, Jr. b 1730, 2.William Keeter b. 1734 3. Lemuel Keeter, b. 1736 4. Landy Keeter, b. 173 5. Michael Keeter, b. 1738 It is not known who Lemuel Keeter married but theyhad two children: Lemuel Keeter b. 1760 died 1849 and James Keeter.
