Old research lists a Keeter as the wife of a Thomas Smith in Rutherford Co. NC.Various sources have listed the female as the daughther of James Keeter of VA/Rutherford Co. NC as Polly or Mira and her dob as cir 1770. Based on a widow's application for a Rev. War pension filed in 1837/38, the wife of Thomas Smith was a Judy Keeter and she was married to Smith "shortly after the end of the Rev. War." Affidavits contained in the pension application include one from Henry Keeter and Nancy Keeter and one affidavit by Judy Keeter Smith was witnessed by Ichabod Keeter. Thomas Smith had prior to his death submitted a Pension application which stated that he served in the Virginia Militia from Brunswick Co. VA.Heapparently moved to Rutherford Co. NC shortly after the end of the war. The application does not state the exact date of his marriage to Judy Keeter but based on dates in the documents the marriage appears to have taken place between 1782 and 1789 in Rutherford Co. NC. Henry Keeter stated in his affidavit that he was well acquainted with the couple (he does not give his relationship to Judy) but states that when she and Thomas Smith were married, he (Henry) was not present because he had gone on a "trip to Virginia."He also states in his affidavit that he thinks the marriage took place "3 or more years" before he purchased some land which the deed stated was in 1792. Judy Keeter Smith's age is not given in the document, but Thomas Smith stated in his Rev. Pension application filed in Oct 1833, that he was born in Sussex Co. VA in 1756. Accordng to the widow's application, Smith died in Rutherford Co. NC on 16 Jun 1843.
