Hello Steve,
The book by Alvahn Holmes (the 2nd volume, on the American Farrars) discusses the John Farrar problem you mentioned on pages 14-16, and also 17-18.She cites the evidence concerning John Farrar, both about the theory (1) that he remained resident in Goochland Co., Virginia, and (2) that he relocated to North Carolina. The researcher cited by Ms. Holmes supporting the North Carolina approach was Mrs. Julian Stephen Moore of Gainesville, FL.The book does not come down definitively either way, but leaves the questions as not being resolved.
If you don't have ready access to the book I can quote passages relevant to this issue in a followup post.I know the Arkansas branch of the family has a Farrar website and family association, and are currently selling a reprint of the book (and the earlier volume, The Farrar's Island Family and Its English Ancestry).
John
