TILFORD KELLY died February 1848 at Col. WILSON FERGUSON DILLON'S plantation near Raymond, Hinds Co., MS.There was a court case filed in 1850 by the half-siblings of TILFORD.One of those half-siblings was my 3rd great grandmother, JULIA ANN EVANS, who was dead by that time. Her sister PERMELIA "PERNECEY" EVANS BERRY was also dead. The court case was brought against STEPHEN DECATUR CURRIE/CURRY and the Colonel. In a nutshell, CURRIE and DILLON took possession of all of TILFORD KELLY'S 'estate', including slaves, cash, horse and horse paraphenalia.TILFORD KELLY died intestate. The only living relatives that he had were the EVANS', STEWARTS and BERRYS.(JULIA ANN EVANS was married to GEORGE W. STEWART and PERMELIA EVANS was married to WILLIAM GREEN BERRY.
I have searched for ANY information about TILFORD KELLY, cemetery he's buried in, why he was living at DILLON'S plantation, who his parents were, etc.Was he an overseer at DILLON'S place?
Do any of you know who TILFORD KELLY'S parents were?It looks to me like there are no other full blood KELLY siblings.
His EVANS half-siblings are the following: 1.JULIA ANN EVANS: B. c1810 TN or NC 2.GREENE EVANS: B. c1820 AL 3.PERMELIA "PERNECEY" EVANS: B. 1822 possibly AL 4.JOHN S. EVANS:B. c1828 5.CULLEN EVANS
As an aside, Col. DILLON'S place was purchased in 2003 by the U. S. Government and turned into a National Park. Why?Because ULYSSES S. GRANT and Gen. SHERMAN camped there during the civil war and decisions made there led to the great Battle of Vicksburg.
