I am searching for info on the MOODY family/families in Northern Ireland (Derry/Londonderry area, Antrim and Down). I have a Frances KENNEDY daughter of Rev. Gilbert Kennedy (a Presbyterian minister)and Elizabeth LAING/Lang. This Kennedy lineage line appears to go back through a succession of "Gilbert's" to Ayrshire, Scotland. Frances KENNEDY b.c1708 married Rev. James MOODY (also a Presbyterian ministers) who was from or born in Magherally, Co. Down, Ireland but moved to Newry, Co. Down, Ireland and was a Presbyterian minister for nearly 40 years before his death around c1772. (The History of Newry has 1772 but other records have a later date for his death around 1779).
Rev. Gilbert Kennedy and wife Elizabeth Laing also had a son named Gilbert Kennedy who was born c1717 in Tullylish, Co. Down, Ire who married Elizabeth TRAILL on Dec. 24, 1742 at the First Presbyterian Church in Killyleagh, Co. Down, Ire. (IGI records)Elizabeth's parents were listed as James Traill and Mary _____. The TRAILL family lineage line goes back to the Orkney Isles of Scotland and also has round-about with the Moodie's from the Orkney's (the Moodie's of Melsetter House on Hoy, Orkney, Scotland). It is this Moodie family that I believe my own Moody family descends from. There are many other solid circumstances that support that, but they do not concern the Kennedy's.
If anyone here knows of any info on the Kennedy and Moody families of Northern Ireland I would be most greatful for any help. My 5th grt. grandfather was a James MOODY who came to America sometime before Jan. 1774 (year he married my 5th grt. grandmother). Thank you for any help at all.
