Insurance agent summered at the Jersey Shore
Thomas F. Kenny Jr. of Bay Terrace, a former insurance agent, died Sunday at home of cancer. He was 65.
Born and reared in Randall Manor, he later moved to Grymes Hill, where he spent the majority of his adult life. He had moved to Bay Terrace within the last several years.
Mr. Kenny graduated in 1960 from the former Augustinian Academy in Grymes Hill.
He took his bachelor's degree in science and economics at St. Peter's College in Jersey City.
During the mid-1960s, Mr. Kenny served in the U.S. Army. He spent three years in the Missile Air Defense Team and was a year in Thule, Greenland. He was honorably discharged in 1967, with the rank of captain.
Mr. Kenny worked at a New Dorp Allstate Insurance office from 1967 to 1996, when he retired as senior account agent.
He enjoyed boating and spending summers in Seaside Park, N.J.
Mr. Kenny was an avid New York Giants fan and attended every home game over the last three decades. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his nephews and nieces.
He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, the former Nancy Shanaphy, and two brothers, Maurice (Mick) Kenny and Eugene Kenny.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, West Brighton. Arrangements include cremation.
