Hello, I've recently begun an attempt to trace back each of the Keohane families that settled in the Philadelphia area. My g-g-grandmother was Catherine (Keohane) Murphy [~1835-1927]. She was born and stayed in Co. Cork (Ballintemple?, Gurranes, Timoleague.
Interestingly, I also have a g-g-aunt who was born a Carroll and married a Keohane.
Several of her Murphy sons traveled to the Philadelphia area and stayed in contact with a number of their Keohane cousins. But those exact records of relation were lost, and now I'm working on piecing it together from the bottom up.
So far, I have identified and traced 5 Keohane family heads. I'm still searching for more, and using census, immigration, birth, death, baptism, philadelphia directory and other records to make the connections So far the families I have traced are the descendants of these couples (born in Ireland, and moved to Philadelphia):
1. Jeremiah Keohane (b.~1825) m. Ann O'Hea 2. John Keohane (1832-1916) m. Johanna Driscoll 3. Patrick Keohane (b. 1848-1909) m. Catherine Driscoll 4. Lawrence Keohane (b.~1850-52) m. unknown (died before 1910) 5. Sylvester Keohane (b.~1855) m. Hanora C ______
So far I have strong evidence that members of families 3, 4 & 5 are related to my Keohane lines... still seeking to define exactly how each line is connected in Ireland though.
Anyone willing to share your information about any of these Philadelphia Keohanes, please let me know... OR if you know of other Keohane family groups who lived in this region at any point, please let me know. You can email me through this site, or directly at MEIERCAMPBELL12@gmail.com. For anyone interested in contributing, I'd be more than happy to share the end results of our compiled KEOHANE research. Thanks so much!
