Elizabeth Kercheval is a problem. Here are some notes: -"About 1850 E.V. and Ann had moved to Berryville with their baby daughter, Elizabeth. Sharing the residence with them was 30 y/o Elizabeth Kercheval and a 5 y/o child, John Harvey. (A Harvey family did live in the area) - By 1860The family has grown with the addition of 9 y/o John who was living seven houses away with Lucy Newman. - census lists the family of Elizabeth Kercheval in Berryville. It is assumed she was E. V.'s older sister-in-law and that her husband died between 1855-1860, based on the age of her son, Marcellus. Unfortunately, her age cannot be used to connect her with any of E.V.'s assumed brothers because of the lack of names on the 1840 census and no record of them on the 1850 census in Virginia. - As to John Harvey Kercheval, he doesn't appear on the 1860 census or later. He may have died and E.V. named the next son John William. -Elizabeth states her age differently for 1850, 1860 and 1870, but I believe she is the same person
Questions: 1. Where was Emma in 1850? 2. Who is Elizabeth's husband? I have been unable to find a husband for Elizabeth. The only other Kerchevals that she might be associated with could be the Northern Neck Kerchevals, but their records have been destroyed. And my in depth study of that family at the FHL did not list any Elizabeth
I am sorry I couldn't do more for you. I checked all my sources.
