I am seeking information about the date and location of death and burial of Benjamin Kerchner, born about 1838, last known to me to be of Jackson, Sullivan County IN. I found the following census record for him in 1880:
1880; Jackson; Sullivan County; Indiana; FHL Film 1254312; Natl Archives Film T9-0312; page 428b; Benjamin Kerchner, blacksmith, head of the household, age 42, born in PA and parents born in PA; Luisa, wife, keeping house, 38, born in PA and parents born in PA; John, son, 16, at home, born in PA; Mary A., daughter, 14, at home, born in PA; Thomas A., son, 11, at home, born in PA; Manda J., daughter, 8, born in KS; Lewis, son, 5, born in IN; and Edward, son, 2, born in IN.
According to some information I have the son John Kerchner above is alleged to have settled in Terri Haute, IN; the son Lewis Kerchner is alleged to have settled in Elgin NE; the son Edward is alleged to have settled in MN; and Manda J., aka Jennie, is alleged to have settled in Logan IA and was married to somene name Clodfelder or Gladtfelder. The whereabouts of the daughter Mary A. are not known to me. She may not have survived to adulthood.
I cannot seem to find this particular Benjamin and Louisa Kerchner in the 1900 census. There is another Benjamin Kerchner born roughly the same year, about 1838, found married to a Mary, living in Washington Co IA. But they have a different set of children and thus are a different family, in my opinion. The above Indiana Benjamin and Louisa Kerchner may have died by 1900 or possibly their surname is so grossly misspelled that I have been unable to find it. Any help in finding the above Indiana Benjamin and Luisa Kechner family in the 1900 or later censuses will be sincerely appreciated too.
Anyone who knows more about this Benjamin Kerchner and Luisa (Louisa?), and/or exacty where they died and are buried, please contact me. I would like to try and find an obituary for them or a death certificate to learn more about exactly where in PA Benjamin Kerchner was from, and/or hopeful the name of the father of this Benjamin Kerchner so I can tie him into one of the PA Kerchner lines I am researching. Thank you.
