It was a brutal war especially in the divided states - Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri. After the war, there were reunions of the Quantrill gang (including Youngers, James, Daltons)at which toasts were drunk to old Bill. Just depended on "whose ox was gored".
I research Spurlocks of Warren/Cannon. Capt. D.C.Spurlock was killed at Murfreesboro (Stone's River)leading a charge in the "round forest" of the 16th Tenn. regt. Spurlock loyalies in that area were divided with two killed in the Union ranks (and they were of the Short Mt. area).
I have a booklet written ca 1940 by a Mr.Dennis on the "History of Sycamore Creek". In it, he describes the circumstances of the death of "Pomp".I believe his nemesis was a Capt. William Hathaway who shows as a neighbor on the 1850-1860 census for Warren. Do you have or want this account ?
